My husband has currently been overseas for the past 5 months. It feels like he's been gone forever! When he first left our son had just turned one and now he's 17 months. I feel like he's missed so much of his first and he's become this little mini person with so much personality. It makes me feel so sad that he's had to miss out on all those little things. You know the ones that get the biggest belly laughs. Tonight I had to make a quick trip to the corner store before rowan's bed time...oops I forgot milk...again. It may have had something to do with R being overtired but while we were waiting in line I got him laughing and he pulled out his biggest, best belly laugh. Everyone slowly started turning around and eventually couldn't help but smile and start laughing at him. The lady behind me looked at R and said " you sweetheart are the light and sunshine on this earth". For some reason I just smiled and teared up. Obviously I feel that way about my son but to hear someone give such a wonderful compliment to my son made me so proud. At the same time though in the back of my head I kept wanting P to be here with us. I wanted him to hear his big belly laugh, see the tired smiles and feel proud at the awesome comments from strangers in grocery stores. 5 months feels like forever in baby years...but the countdown is on he is expected home Sept. 2nd and so the countdown continues.

Sweet Treat Sunday

I woke up this morning to lots of rain and wind a blah kind of day. The kind of day where you stay in your pjs, watch movies and eat lots of yummy things. It's also the kind of day where the smell of fresh baked cookies should fill the air. I originally wanted to bake milk chocolate yogurt covered pretzel cookies after I seen this recipe but because I couldn't find any yogurt covered pretzels I settled for second best ...oatmeal raisin. I love the delicious cinnamon smell and the yummy taste in my belly of course and as a bonus it's a treat I feel okay with giving my 14 month old. Here's my recipe for supper soft

oatmeal raisin cookies
1 cup margarine
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup white all purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins

Directions

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream margarine,sugar,eggs and vanilla.
- In separate bowl combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
- Stir dry ingredients into the sugar mixture.
- Add rolled oats and raisins.
- Drop by rounded spoonful onto increased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes

Once they've cooled (or not) enjoy!

The whole picture in bits and peices

The first post!! I created this blog a while ago intending to write about my sons traumatic birth and to raise awareness on Vasa Previa. The more I tried to think about what I wanted to write the less motivated I became. I found it was hard to remember all the details I wanted to share. I found myself wishing I had started blogging while I was pregnant so ppl could get the whole story. I still want to write about all those things but I'd also like to talk about day to day things too. My love for food (eating, cooking, reading lol), day to day life as a military wife, the joy of being a mother to the most precious miracle I've ever received, my job (at a court house where anything can happen) and so much more. I want to give everyone the whole picture in bits an peices. So there we have it my first blog post!
